VRROOM: no picture, black screen or signal drops
Loss of sync, random black screens or no image at all with an HDfury VRROOM in the chain. Work through these steps in order — in the vast majority of reports the cause is a cable or a port choice, not the unit.
Fix it step by step
- Check the OLED first. If it shows OLED OFF or nothing at all, use the supplied VRROOM power supply (not a lighter USB adapter) and press any button — the OLED fades after 30 seconds by default.
- Replace suspect HDMI cables. For 18Gbps signals use certified “high speed” cables between 6 and 12ft (2–4m); for 40Gbps links every cable between a 40Gbps source and sink must be a 1200MHz-certified or tested 8K cable in copper or fiber. Very short 1ft cables between VRROOM and display are a known cause of intermittent drops.
- Check the port for old displays. An HDMI 1.x display or projector must be connected to the TX1 1080p downscale output, not TX0.
- Verify the TV input itself. Many TVs only accept 4K60 4:4:4 (600MHz) on specific HDMI ports and only after enabling an option such as Samsung’s “UHD Color” (Settings > HDMI > UHD Color, plus assigning the port as “PC”). Check your display’s manual for its full-bandwidth ports.
- Fall back to a safe EDID. On the web server’s EDID section (or OLED menu > [EDID Mode]) select the FIXED test EDID — a 4K60 4:2:0 300MHz table that produces a picture in almost every setup. If the picture returns, step up through EDID banks until you find your chain’s limit.
- Restart the source after EDID changes. Some sources (Xbox One S, Samsung K8500 among others) need a full power-cord unplug between EDID changes.
- Issue a hotplug. Web server > CONFIG > ISSUE HOTPLUG performs a soft reset of the HDMI chain without rebooting anything.
Short resyncs are normal
A brief black screen when content starts or the format changes (60Hz menu → 24Hz film) is a normal HDMI resync. Any device inserted between source and display — AVR, switcher, matrix or VRROOM — adds one; it is not a fault.

Do you need a VRROOM for this?
Yes, if…
- your black screens come from HDCP errors between old and new gear — the HDCP Doctor converts 2.3 ↔ 1.4 both ways
- a long cable run needs a repeater: VRROOM amplifies and recovers the signal mid-chain
No, if…
- your dropouts happen without a VRROOM and started after a cable change — buy a certified cable first, it is far cheaper
- the display simply doesn’t support the format being sent — no device can add capability a panel lacks
