HDfury VRROOM: specs, features and connections

The HDfury VRROOM is an HDMI 2.1 device with 4 inputs and 2 scalable video outputs that passes true 8K60/4K120 VRR FRL5 signals at 1200MHz/40Gbps, extracts full HDMI and eARC/ARC audio, and fixes HDCP, EDID and HDR metadata problems. Everything below comes from the official 8K VRROOM user manual.

Overview

VRROOM supports up to 4 inputs for full 8K60/4K120 VRR FRL5 1200MHz 40Gbps signals. It can solve any HDCP error, pass through and split video while extracting full HDMI audio from sources, and pull ARC/eARC audio — up to Atmos HBR over TrueHD — from the TV to feed an older AVR via HDMI input or any eARC/ARC sound system. It can matrix any SD to UHD/HDR/DV or PC signal up to 600MHz, upscale to 4K/8K or downscale to 4K/1080p per output, assign one of a wide selection of EDID banks per input, convert LLDV to HDR, and inject, replace or translate HDR metadata and AVI infoframes.

Based on incoming content type it can send RS232 commands to any RS232-controllable display, and a relay port offers automation capability. Control works via IR, push buttons, IP/HTTP/RS232, the embedded web server from any browser, or the Android and iOS apps.

What connects where

  1. Connect the supplied power supply (110–240V in, 12V 1A out).
  2. Connect a source to any HDMI input — the default input is HDMI/INP0.
  3. Connect your display to HDMI TX0. TX0 is the CEC/ARC/eARC master, so an ARC or eARC TV must sit on this output.
  4. An HDMI 1.x display or projector belongs on TX1, the dedicated 1080p downscale output.
  5. An AVR without 4K support connects to the HDMI AUDIO output, which carries a self-generated 720p/1080p stream with full audio.
  6. An eARC/ARC sound system (SONOS Arc, Beam, Bose and similar) connects to the eARC AUDIO output.
  7. Optional: Ethernet for the web server, RS232 for control or display macros, IR RX, relay for automation, and SPDIF (5.1) or 3.5mm analog stereo audio.

Use 40Gbps-capable HDMI cables when any 40Gbps source or sink is in the chain (audio outputs excepted). For a 1200MHz/40Gbps link, use 1200MHz-certified or tested 8K cables in copper or fiber, ideally 6–12ft (2–4m) for copper.

Audio passes untouched

VRROOM does not manipulate or transform audio formats: what comes in goes out untouched. If you plan to extract stereo from the analog output, the incoming signal must be stereo — an Atmos bitstream cannot come out of the stereo jack. Lossless formats travel over the HDMI outputs; SPDIF carries up to 5.1.

Operating modes

  • 4×2 splitter/switcher up to 8K FRL5 40Gbps plus HDMI audio out and eARC/ARC audio out, with HDCP conversion and scaling rules applied automatically.
  • 4×2 matrix up to 600MHz 18Gbps: process two 18Gbps signals at the same time from two sources to two sinks, with one channel converted in resolution, HDCP, chroma, colour depth or colour space.
  • 3×1 matrix + 1×1 FRL5: input 0 keeps full FRL5 while inputs 1–3 matrix up to 18Gbps.

HDCP Doctor

Fifteen HDCP 1.4 and 2.3 engines decrypt and re-encrypt per port, converting HDCP 2.3 to 1.4 and 1.4 to 2.3 both ways, simultaneously on all channels. Any HDCP 1.x or 2.x source works with any HDCP 1.x or 2.x sink, which also keeps older AVRs and switchers usable with 8K-era sources.

EDID manager

Pick from 100 EDID tables (10 custom slots and 90 predefined banks, from 8K60-420 FRL5 VRR HDR down to 480p60), copy a sink EDID, build an Automix EDID from both connected displays with forced flags for FRL rate, VRR, ALLM, HDR and DV, or upload your own table — individually per input. VRROOM can also sniff and reuse the Dolby Vision datablock of the TV on TX0 so DV survives equipment in between.

HDR Fixer and Dolby Vision tools

Capture and decipher incoming HDR10, HLG, DV metadata and AVI infoframes; build and inject custom metadata; translate HLG to HDR; convert LLDV sources for HDR10-only displays and projectors; or disable selected metadata entirely — useful for JVC projector owners who apply their own gamma curves.

Control and automation

Embedded web server for Mac, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS browsers; OLED info display and OSD; IR with three selectable code sets; RS232 and IP/Telnet command lists shipped with every firmware package; RS232 macros that send display commands based on content type (3D, HDR10, SDR BT709/BT2020, LLDV and more); and a relay port to trigger equipment such as a projection screen.

Is the VRROOM right for you?
