VRROOM: TV remote won’t control eARC/ARC volume
The TV remote no longer changes the volume of the eARC or ARC sound system behind your HDfury VRROOM. This is a CEC handshake issue between TV and sound system — the manual gives six ordered recovery steps.
Fix it step by step
- Turn TV CEC off and back on (or run a CEC scan). Some TVs need a moment after CEC ON before they detect equipment.
- Unplug and replug the sound system’s HDMI cable. Some TVs only switch to system audio mode after re-detecting the sound system.
- Power-cycle the sound system: remove the power cord, wait a few seconds, reconnect.
- Power-cycle the TV properly: unplug the power cord, wait about 3 minutes (Sony’s own documented reset), then reconnect.
- Try a different power-up order for TV, VRROOM, sound system and source — some combinations only lock in with a particular sequence.
- Unplug and replug the VRROOM HDMI output to the TV as a final nudge.
Why this happens
A TV only mutes its own speakers and forwards volume keys after entering CEC “system audio” mode — and the only device that can trigger that mode is the ARC/eARC sound system itself, via a specific CEC command. Until the TV reacts to that command, volume keys do nothing. VRROOM merely listens to this traffic; after a VRROOM reboot the whole sequence restarts, and which device announces itself first is random.
Also check the VRROOM side: in the web server’s CEC/eARC section, CEC must be enabled and the CEC type must be Audio Processor for VRROOM to handle eARC/ARC extraction (use Video Processor only when an AVR in your setup owns ARC). The unit needs a restart after changing CEC type. And per the manual: always switch between TV apps and the VRROOM HDMI input with the TV remote, since those keypresses generate the CEC routing commands VRROOM relies on. A source remote’s volume keys (like the ATV4K’s) are a separate mechanism — re-pair that remote with the sound system if only it stopped working.
