Chromecast and Google TV Streamer with the VRROOM
Google’s streamers work well behind a VRROOM — and several VRROOM firmware fixes were shipped specifically for Chromecast behaviour.
Settings on the Google side
Per Google’s official display settings page for Chromecast with Google TV and the Google TV Streamer: under All settings > Display & Sound you can select your preferred resolution, pick dynamic range and color formats, and enable Match content frame rate so the “streaming device match[es] the frame rate to the source content”. Google also notes that if non-HDR video looks oversaturated, enabling Match content can resolve it, and that HDR format selection can be left to apps automatically.
Chromecast fixes in the VRROOM firmware
Firmware 0.61 lists these items, verbatim from the official notes:
- “Addressed the problem that the TV sometimes flashes when the signal of ChromeCast source device is input”
- “Addressed the problem that downstream HDCP certification may become 1.4 when when the refresh rate of 4K HDR video is switched to 50Hz<->60Hz with Google Chromecast Ultra”
- “Addressed the problem that downstream HDCP authentication may become 1.4 when the refresh rate is switched to 50Hz<->60Hz in smartphone Google Home application”
Seeing flashes or HDCP oddities with a Chromecast? Update to the latest firmware first — these are solved problems.
Fifty/sixty-hertz switching is common on these devices with European content; the VRROOM passes both untouched, and a brief resync at a format change is normal HDMI behaviour — see FAQ VIDEO.
